Editorial Policy
Our rigorous ethical guidelines, news standards, and commitment to independent digital journalism.
1. Ethical Journalism Principles
BCN Network (Bengal Chronicle Network) operates under the highest standards of professional digital journalism. We observe key ethical codes derived from global journalism federations, ensuring that our reporting is fair, objective, honest, and courageous. We strive to give voice to the voiceless and provide accurate public interest news.
2. Content Verification & Accuracy Policy
Every news story, feature, and review undergoes our standard editorial check before publication:
- Triple-Verification: All factual claims must be checked against multiple independent resources or supported by primary evidence.
- Cross-Checking Quotes: Directly quoted statements must be verified for accuracy and presented in their proper context.
- No Plagiarism: We observe a strict zero-tolerance policy against plagiarism. Any reference to external work must be clearly credited and linked.
3. Sourcing Policy & Source Protections
Sourcing is the foundation of our reporting. We prioritize transparent sourcing, clearly identifying the individuals, departments, or agencies providing the information.
- Source Confidentiality: If a source requests anonymity due to genuine safety or professional threats, and the information is of extreme public interest, we will honor our agreement of confidentiality and protect the source under Indian Press frameworks.
- Verifiable Identity: Anonymous sources must be verified by the senior editors before the content is approved.
4. Complete Editorial Independence
Our editorial desk operates with complete independence from commercial, political, or private interests.
- No Government/Corporate Vetos: We do not allow government bodies, private organizations, or commercial partners to review, modify, or veto any investigative report or news item.
- Gifts and Benefits Policy: BCN Network journalists are strictly prohibited from accepting personal gifts, expensive favors, or financial benefits from political parties, corporates, or PR agencies that could compromise their objective judgment.
5. Conflict of Interest Guidelines
If a BCN writer has a personal, financial, or political relationship with the subject of a story they are reporting, they must disclose it to the editor immediately. The editor will either reassign the story or ensure a clear "Disclosure of Interest" is appended at the top of the article.
